LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To work out and learn squares up to 15 sqaured and cubes up to 10 cubed.
To understand how to expand, combine and simplify power numbers

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will know the squares of all numbers up to 15 squared and cubes up to 10 cubed.

ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY:

LESSON: Hand out Blank Cards and Explain to Students how to put A number squared on one side and the answer to the number squared on the reverse side. A few examples on board.

TASK 1: Complete all fifteen cards for 12 up to 152

Now spend 10 mins with a partner using the cards to learn the answers to any that you do not already know.

With Some groups show how to add Square root and a solution to the cards in a different colour and try to learn them

TASK 2: Take another five cards and repeat the exercises but with the first five cubes, 13, 23, 33, 43, 53. Again
use the cards to try and learn the first five cube numbers, and the first five cube roots.

PLENARIES: Helping students / tables of students with the exercise and giving individuals/pairs ideas of how to use their cards to learn them.

EXTENSION: Using Index Notation to simplify expressions and multiplying index numbers together
